Equipped with the right applications, a computer can be of great help in virtually any domain of activity. When it comes to designing and precision, no other tool is as accurate as a computer. Moreover, specialized applications such as AutoCAD give you the possibility to design nearly anything ranging from art, to complex mechanical parts or even buildings.
Suitable for business environments and experienced users
After a decent amount of time spent installing the application on your system, you are ready to fire it up. Thanks to the office suite like interface, all of its features are cleverly organized in categories. At a first look, it looks easy enough to use, but the abundance of features it comes equipped with leaves room for second thoughts.
Create 2D and 3D objects
You can make use of basic geometrical shapes to define your objects, as well as draw custom ones. Needless to say that you can take advantage of a multitude of tools that aim to enhance precision. A grid can be enabled so that you can easily snap elements, as well as adding anchor points to fully customize shapes.
With a little imagination and patience on your behalf, nearly anything can be achieved. Available tools allow you to create 3D objects from scratch and have them fully enhanced with high-quality textures. A powerful navigation pane is put at your disposal so that you can carefully position the camera to get a clearer view of the area of interest.
Various export possibilities
Similar to a modern web browser, each project is displayed in its own tab. This comes in handy, especially for comparison views. Moreover, layouts and layers also play important roles, as it makes objects handling a little easier.
Sine the application is not the easiest to carry around, requiring a slightly sophisticated machine to properly run, there are several export options put at your disposal so that the projects itself can be moved around.
Aside from the application specific format, you can save as an image file of multiple types, PDF, FBX and a few more. Additionally, it can be sent via email, directly printed out on a sheet of paper, or even sent to a 3D printing service, if available.
To end with
All in all, AutoCAD remains one of the top applications used by professionals to achieve great precision with projects of nearly any type. It encourages usage with incredible offers for student licenses so you get acquainted with its abundance of features early on. A lot can be said about what it can and can't do, but the true surprise lies in discovering it step-by-step.

The first edition of AutoCAD, and subsequent versions, use the DWG (drafting) file format, also known as Windows Drawing Format (WDF). Since the introduction of the second edition of AutoCAD in 1986, subsequent versions have adopted the DGN (drawing) file format, which is also a derivative of the Windows Drawing Format (WDF) that was standardised and published by Microsoft in 1989.
AutoCAD is installed on many Windows PCs and Windows Tablets, but also runs on macOS, iOS, Android, Windows Mobile, Windows Embedded, and Unix-based operating systems. AutoCAD is also available on some other platforms, including many of Autodesk’s own products (e.g. in the VectorWorks software, which is based on AutoCAD and primarily used for mechanical engineering, and SketchBook Pro, which is based on AutoCAD).
AutoCAD is one of the best-selling CAD applications in the world, with over 2.5 million users and over 500 million CAD drawings created with AutoCAD.
AutoCAD LT is the name of Autodesk’s low-end CAD product.
In the beginning, AutoCAD LT was only available as a licensed software product. In 2002, Autodesk introduced AutoCAD LT as a download that could be used without a license. The idea of the LT license was that it is a trial license. The license is valid for 30 days and allows the user to open up to 20 drawing files for a non-commercial purpose.
The official Microsoft name for AutoCAD LT is Microsoft AutoCAD LT 2018.
AutoCAD LT is available on most Windows systems and on macOS (since version 12.1). It can also be downloaded for iOS (since version 5.3) and Android. In late September 2012, Autodesk announced that they will stop supporting AutoCAD LT on Microsoft Windows and macOS. The last version that can run on Microsoft Windows and macOS is 2016 (as of August 2017).
AutoCAD LT 2019 was announced on 28 January 2018, and made available for all major platforms on 19 March 2018.
AutoCAD LT 2020 was announced on 7 March 2019 and is now available for all major platforms.
AutoCAD LT 2020 will be available for most major platforms on 19 March 2020, including Microsoft Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Linux, and

In 2012, Autodesk announced the opening of the 3D Warehouse, which allows users to upload 3D models created in Autodesk’s free and paid software.
In 2019, Autodesk launched their Digital Engineering suite, which includes a cloud-based model archive to allow users to access files without using the disk.
Early AutoCAD software was developed by Gary Wedmore and Jim Fox in 1979. They developed a line of software called ‘3DV’, which was later renamed AutoCAD. When they parted ways in 1979, Fox went on to found Autodesk.
On December 27, 2007, Autodesk acquired the German-based software company, Graficas Imago, which produced software for producing two-dimensional imagery on large-scale displays such as digital highway signage.
On May 7, 2010, Autodesk announced it had acquired the handheld design tool company, a division of the Symbioz Corporation of Switzerland. On April 22, 2011, Autodesk announced that they would acquire Honeybee Technology, which creates the Honeybee iOS app for building computer aided design (CAD) applications. On August 6, 2011, Autodesk announced that it would acquire the French digital design company, Simbioz, which creates digital design software for the television set industry.
In June 2012, Autodesk acquired Accellium for $1.53 billion.
In July 2013, Autodesk announced that it would acquire digital design software company, RapidForm, for $225 million. Autodesk acquired iCraft Software on July 16, 2014.
In March 2015, Autodesk acquired Papyrus Design Automation, a vendor of direct-to-manufacturing (DTM) software. The DTM software had been sold previously by Alias Wavefront to HP in 2012.
In December 2016, Autodesk acquired a portfolio of tools, including: Autodesk Forge, Design Review, My Blocks, and the Process Framework.
Autodesk began developing AutoCAD in 1979. Steve Alcorn conceived AutoCAD at the time of software for the team who wrote a Micro Focus development environment named “Micro Focus”. The first version of AutoCAD was written in BASIC, then Visual Basic for Applications, and C++. The current version of AutoCAD is AutoCAD LT 2019.

Finding shortest route in a graph, using BFS algorithm
I’m working on a project for fun and started to wonder how the graph search problem is solved using BFS.
Say I have a graph with N vertices and M edges. If I want to find the shortest route from vertex 0 to vertex N-1, then is BFS the correct way to approach it? The problem is, I don’t want to implement a queue for each vertex, nor do I want to iterate through the vertices.
I understand that I could make each vertex represent a pair of coordinates, as we have a 2D graph. Then I could start the BFS algorithm at vertex 0 and store the coordinates of every node visited. Every node that is visited would be processed until a node is reached that is greater than the other node’s coordinates (using some math trickery perhaps?). Then I could make the node at coordinates (0, N) as the starting point for the BFS algorithm. I don’t know how to make that last step though, or if that would even be the correct way to solve the problem.
Another way I could go about it is to iterate through each node in an arraylist and find the closest node to the current node. But that doesn’t seem to be the right way to approach it either.
Short answer: yes, BFS is the way to go.
Long answer: BFS performs best if the graph is not sparse. If you graph is sparse, you may want to look at Dijkstra’s algorithm or even just use a single-source shortest-paths algorithm (e.g. the Floyd-Warshall algorithm).
