What is Roblox?
Roblox is an online game platform and game creation system developed by Roblox Corporation that allows users to program games and play games created by other users. Roblox History
Roblox was created by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel in early 2004 and launched in July 2006. The game was released under the moniker of “Adventures in Wonderland,” an extension of a game they had created in 2003 called “Tunnels and Dragons.”
When Roblox was created, it was a single-player game that allowed users to play different games and imagine their own adventures. Programming was done by “smart kids.” Roblox was created with hopes of finding a new online community based around the game, and it quickly grew into something more.
Early, programs were written in Flash and then ported to Lua. While they were using Flash, it was not very popular and thus the programming team decided to port the games to Lua. Because of Lua’s syntax, Roblox was able to become a more immersive experience than its predecessor. Also, it allowed children to create their own games, thus eliminating the need for expensive middlemen to make games.
